New Year’s Resolutions for 2023 It’s that time of year again when many of us will be thinking about the year ahead and setting new goals for self-improvement. According to a recent survey by Finder UK, only 9% of people set resolutions for career progression in 2022. In this blog, we explore some ideas about how you can improve your work life and start the new year off putting your best foot forward. Learn a new skill. Whatever line of work you are in, you can learn a new skill that will benefit your career. Don’t keep putting it off. You won’t regret it. LinkedIn Learning is a good online resource that can help you identify the skills you need to advance your career. Meet other professionals in your industry. Networking is a great way to make valuable new connections and a way to stay on top of what is happening in your field. You could start by checking out eventrbrite to see what’s happening in your area. Listen to one career-related or motivational podcast. No matter what your job is, there is a podcast out there that can inspire you and give you a fresh perspective. Find one that you enjoy, whether or not it is specific to your industry. Here’s one you might enjoy from Steven Bartlett of Dragon’s Den fame The Diary of a CEO. Don’t get comfortable. It is easy to sleepwalk from one year into the next and suddenly wake up to the realisation that you have not changed anything about the way you work, and strategies are becoming stale. Make a resolution to reflect on the past year and consider where there is room for innovation. Ask yourself questions like: What am I doing well, that I would like to keep doing? What am I doing that I would like to change, or stop doing? What were my wins in 2022? What am I proud of? What were my challenges? Where am I stuck? Work out what gets you out of bed in the morning. Are you excited to go to work? Do you enjoy the work and the people that you work with? If the answer to any of these questions is no, and you’re only working to earn money, perhaps it’s time to start looking for something new? RecruitAbility provides effective, personalised and professional recruitment services that can help you to find your dream job. What other work-related resolutions can you think of?
