Job Title: PRN Buyer (Packaging Recovery Notes Buyer)
Salary: £55,000
Hours: Monday – Friday. Full time

Job Role
Responsible for procuring Packaging Recovery Notes (PRNs) and Packaging Export Recovery Notes (PERNs) on behalf of clients, ensuring compliance with UK packaging waste regulations and the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework, while managing cost, risk and supplier relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- PRN / PERN Procurement
- Purchase PRNs and PERNs across all obligated packaging materials
- Monitor market availability, pricing trends and volatility
- Develop and execute buying strategies to ensure sufficient evidence coverage
- Manage spot buying and forward contracts where appropriate
Supplier & Market Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with accredited reprocessors and exporters
- Conduct supplier due diligence to ensure regulatory compliance
- Negotiate pricing, volumes and contractual terms
- Track supplier performance and evidence delivery
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure PRNs purchased are valid and suitable for compliance submissions
- Align buying activity with obligated tonnages
- Identify and manage risks relating to shortages, pricing or regulatory change
- Support audits and regulatory queries
Data, Reporting & Forecasting
- Forecast PRN demand and track positions by material and scheme year
- Produce cost, coverage and exposure reports
- Maintain accurate purchasing and contract records
Stakeholder Support
- Provide technical and commercial insight on PRN markets
- Support client communications during market volatility
- Contribute to market updates and compliance guidance
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of packaging regulations and future legislation
- Support development of operational procedures and systems
- Agree and achieve personal performance targets
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Strong understanding of UK packaging compliance, PRNs/PERNs and EPR
- Experience in procurement, trading or buying roles
- Commercial negotiation skills
- Ability to analyse market data and manage risk
- High attention to detail
- Degree or equivalent
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Experience within a packaging compliance scheme or recycling sector
- Knowledge of Environment Agency accreditation processes
- Experience with compliance reporting systems
- Proficiency in Word and Excel

Location: Remote (with occasional visits to the office)
Hours: Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm
Pension
